HURST, John Garnet. 1959-? (after 1965). b 3 July 1930, Nottingham; d 2 November 1986. Lived at West Bridgford. Pilot Officer RAF when married in 1954 to Valerie Margaret Kent.  Latin. “Labienus”. The late Robert (R. J.) Newton (1957-64) composed the following to the tune of The British Grenadiers:

          Some talk of Nigel Press,
And some of Freddie White,
Of Spolton and Jack Lewis,
And perhaps they’re right.
But of all the School’s great masters,
There’s one who’s always first:
With a bang and a crash and a scream and a shout,
His name is Mr Hurst!
